The Day Windows Killed Ubuntu
While I am not much into
April Fools' Day, what if Canonical was bought out by Microsoft thus forming Microsoft Windows-buntu? Or what if Microsoft paid QuinnStorm to stop developing Beryl? I have begun developing a list of things I would hate to hear on April Fool's Day as it relates to Linux.
- Ubuntu and Fedora Merge
- Red Hat Partners With Microsoft
- Microsoft Buys Out Canonical (Ubuntu)
- Windows Vienna (Blackcomb) Renamed To Windows-buntu
- Linus Torvalds Joins Apple
- Linux Kernel 2.8 Released (well, would be nice, but it's not yet time for it)
- AMD Discontinues Linux fglrx Drivers
- GNOME suddenly vanishes
- Quinnstorm faces a barrage of legal issues over Beryl; Beryl dies
- RMS Gives Up On GNU GPL v3
- Red Hat Discontinues Fedora Support
- Google Creates Their Own Linux Distribution -- A Total Flop.
- Gentoo Falls Apart Over Developer Issues
- NVIDIA Legally Attacks Nouveau
In the comments section feel free to continue with Linux things you would hate to hear...

taking a serious look:
- Red Hat Partners With Microsoft
i believe that something similar was in the works recently. or maybe that were just rumors.
- Quinnstorm faces a barrage of legal issues over Beryl; Beryl dies
well Kororaa XGL Livecd got hit by licence grayspace problem recently. malicious people are creative.
- Gentoo Falls Apart Over Developer Issues
open source world hates the void. gentoo's dissapearance would create one. either other source distros would take it and evolve rapidly, or community would resurrect the project.
- NVIDIA Legally Attacks Nouveau
you should also add "ATI/AMD sends CoD letter to open source ati driver developers". (CoD = Cease or Desist).
- Microsoft Buys Out Canonical (Ubuntu)
they have the money. fortunately ubuntu is getting more canonical independent and more a community project.
- Windows Vienna (Blackcomb) Renamed To Windows-buntu
actually i would like to see this one :] this would be really funny.
as far as april's fools is concerned :
what i wouldn't like to see is
- "ati developers accidentaly rushed the april's fools fglrx release with fake control panel" :]
- "microsoft drops aero in favor of compiz in next windows"
- "steve ballmer leaves microsoft"
and some more :]

nice fabulation, but maybe not productive at all.
M$ can buy whatever and even GNOME disappear but linux will go its own development process thanks to independent developers and find alternatives. And those, developers, can't be bought neither tied under any possible law (democratic law, of course, which should be applied worldwide; so Linux will exist under one form or other. Furthermore, I see it the other way round, Linux will end up with Windows (as we understand it), if you don't believe so take a close look at Dell's movements and Governments' (French Parliament,Belgium, Extremadura(SP)...).

Is it just me, or is reading of the news today stinks? It's rarely funny, sometimes there's no certainty, and it's akin to checking an inbox filled with SPAM. Then again, I sort of do this for a living, so my pain/rant/complaint may not apply to everyone. The jokes have washed away the real news and I think it gets worse every year.

Yeah, it seems to be getting worse and worse. Filled on Digg and Slashdot today were globs of April Fools jokes... It's partially why I posted this entry the way I did and didn't try to pull the entire thing off as a joke.

Perhaps Microsoft and AdSense pull an April fools stunt as well.
